About the Project

Strengthening conservation and resilience of globally-significant wild cat landscapes with a focus on wild cat & leopard conservation 

Project Objective:

Secure populations and habitats of wild cats subject to habitat encroachment, human-wildlife conflict, poaching and illegal trade in priority landscapes of northern, north-eastern and western India. 

The project aims to achieve the same through four components:

Component 1: Enabling policy framework and institutional capacity

Component 2: Strengthen government management of wild cats and habitats

Component 3: Build community stewardship at the landscape level

Component 4: Enhance private sector partnerships, regional collaboration and knowledge transfer and learning supported by gender mainstreaming and monitoring and evaluation

GLOBAL TIGER FORUM

Global Tiger Forum (GTF) is the only inter-governmental organization working exclusively for the conservation of Tigers in the Tiger Range Countries with the goal of highlighting the rationale for Tiger preservation, providing leadership, and utilizing a common approach throughout the world in order to safeguard the survival of the Tiger, its prey and its habitat

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT FACILITY (GEF)

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is an international partnership that provides funding to address global environmental issues. It was established in 1991 and brings together 184 countries, along with institutions like the United Nations, the World Bank, regional development banks, and various international NGOs.  To support sustainable development by funding projects that help tackle environmental problems like climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, chemicals and waste, and international waters. MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST & CLIMATE CHANGE 

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is the nodal agency in the administrative structure of the Central Government for the planning, promotion, co-ordination and overseeing the implementation of India’s environmental and forestry policies and programmes. The Ministry also serves as the nodal agency in the country for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP), International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and for the follow-up of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The Ministry is also entrusted with issues relating to multilateral bodies such as the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), Global Environment Facility (GEF) and of regional bodies like Economic and Social Council for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) and South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) on matters pertaining to the environment.
